33 months old

Jojo turned 33 months old officially on 15.12.06. He dislikes reading, most of the kids will look for the desire books when they shop to bookstore, but my Jo is opposite, he would go to the disc racks and hunt for his lovely cartoon and use his cry as a weapon to force us pay for him. He even said "i am very pity, why i have to read book?", can you imagine what a little boy's thought of reading, is it as a pressure? In fact, we never forced him to read and never forced him to remember certain of things, everything we introduced to him was in fun basis, but he acts so reluctantly. Secondly, he doesn't like nursery songs (blamed mommy barely listened one when pregnant him) but he would sing the Japanese cartoon song when TV is broadcasting the cartoon, of course he is not capable singing a complete song. Apart from reading and singing, he is just so excellent in everything especially his dexterity, he ever said this before "I want be Number One in racing but not in reading" (我赛跑拿第一,我不要读书第一), as a mother what will you do when you heard this? Just let him be what he wants to be or hold the cane and force him to sit for reading? Both ain't, we trying to cultivate a good reading environment for him as we believe persistent cultivation sure can upbringing a love reading child. I just hope his current interest in reading is not equall to future, in case not, i just don't know what is the remedial for his declined.

He's still very young, so give him some time and what you're doing is right by cultivating a reading environment at home.
My godson doesn't like to read too, and prefers the TV. When he started kindy this year, he cried when he's doing the homework. But by now, he's ok, and he's quite smart too. :)

mommy and daddy got show good example or not when it comes to reading?

we loves reading. most of the time my girls will see either hubby or me reading and they will do the same, take a book, flip thru it or forced mommy to read for them. i read alot during pregnancy too.

now, i hardly have time to read. i wonder whether my boy will know what is a book for, except for munching. hehe.

hmm.. did you start reading to him when he was much younger? Probably you can start by playing some games pertaining to the books to stir his interest?

33 months and you are pressurizing him. Get him books that will interest him. At this age, they liked visual rather than words.

some children do dislike books initially.. such things cannot be force but can encourage Jo more like reading storybooks to him. Just some short story for a start till he is comfortable.

Pls don't blame yourself for not exposing him to nursery songs..i don't remember myself singing nursery songs when young. I only sing it now bcos i hv a daughter. :) Take it easy, things will be fine.

Always look to God in prayer. He will help you. God bless!

We like reading especially me, i can live without TV but definitely not books. Jo would snatch over my book whenever he saw me reading. We do try hard to cultivate a good environment for him, but he just so rejected. I did read for him since he was a baby, just not sure why he hates reading now. I did buy him the electronic learning gadget for him to learn his alphabet and numbers, he loved it the first day but after that the thing just covered by dust. Whenever i tried to play the electronic book with him, he would say "i don't like it, i want to sleep", so what to do??
