Excessively ?

These are the daily supplements to Jo.

Scott's Emulsion - 5ml per day
GNC Chewable C - 1 tablet per day
21st Century Calcium tablet - 1 tablet per day
Yakult - 1 bottle per day
Horizon Baby Yogurt - Depends, minimum twice a week
Nutrifresh - Half pack per day

Does excessive supplements will stop the body to produce its own immune system? But all the supplements seem like MUST to Jo as he doesn't like veges and fruits, so that he is quite easily to catch flu and cough.

I'm a weak woman so i really don't want my son like me, as my mind is "the more he takes, the harder he falls". But, my hubby said it's excessively for a little boy, is it? What to do?

If he's drinking milk and eating cheese and yogurt then no need to take calsium supplement.

I'm giving my kids ...scott's cod liver oil (daily) and chewable vitamin C, sometimes I do alternate the cod liver oil with multivitamin syrups instead.

they have yogurt to snack on (not daily), they drink yakult/vitagen (not daily also) and ocassionaly they have nutrifresh (mine out of stock now..cannot get my hubby's friend to replenish). My boy doesn't like vege also..but I will chopped and hide in whatever food I gave him, JS slowly moving out of the picky eater stage and is happily eating what i give her...

I'll still suggest u give him more fresh fruits & vege!

Like dragonmum says, if he drinks milk and eat cheese then calsium intake no need lah..

my girl takes scott's cod liver oil (not sure daily or not at MIL's house). Snacks on cheese/yakult/vitagen/yoghurt whatever she can find in the fridge.

Qianyi doesn't take supplement. We bought chewable vitamin c for but she doesn't like it. There's lots of vitamins in her formula milk, and I feed her veg, meat and fruit everyday..so I guess that's enough. Oh ya, I feed her honey everyday too.

Hi! Just dropping by ur blog. My son, Mika is taking nutrifresh too. It's a wholesome drink as it contains many fruits n soy. I give my son millenium, just a spoonful a day, the cactus drink from e excel too. This is excellent in building up strong immune system. My son has been taking it for 1/2 year n I can see the difference especially his complexion. When he gets cold or cough, he recovers very fast on his own without medication. You dont have to give ur son too much supplements at this age...as long as he eats a varity of food. Before my son started taking those 2 supplements, he easily gets bacterial or viral infection esp just started school. I did not breastfeed him that's why he lacks of natural immunity. I'm worried as he is in kindie...easy to fall sick. But after having nutrifresh n millenium...it's so much different now.

To me, it's too much. And immune system will not only depends on food intake, but also suffient exercise as well.
BTW, by taking too much supplements, we actually won't know which is the most effective one. If the supplement is good enough, by taking one type only will also ensure a healthy body.
I read some articles that by taking too much supplements will make the liver has more burden too, so too much is not good as well.

wow..that's quite a lot to take for such a young age.

I believe in natural food..but I also understand many kids don't like vege. Try to cook it different way...or present it attractively..

Oh thats a lot of supplements for a little kid. Its better to give them a balanced diet. If they don't like vegetables, give them more fruit. Should be fine. Afterall, I don't think most of us ate a lot of vegetables when we're young as well so why force the kid to eat them?

Wow, that's a lot of supplement for a kid so small!

My boys takes CodLiverOil (dump in the milk) and vitagen. Used to take vitamin c / spirulina but now they don't like it , so I just let it be.
However, they take vegetables and fruits (limited few cos they are so choosy) everyday!

wow, too many la.
i think cod liver oil and nutrifresh shud be more than enough.
Yakult and yogurt can served as snack.
My gal take neurogain only and yakult once a while as snack.

wah a lot la! and he actually obediently takes it?? so hard to get mine to swallow the scotts emulsion..but he will gladly gulp down the yakult tho...well according to my paed only one supplement is sufficient cos i used to give him a mulitvit on top of the emulsion. too much calcium may not be good as i heard excess can eat up the existing calcium in the bones. and i heard that excess vit a or b oso not good..aiya..anything excessive oso should not be good..i think..

u can try to add fruits to the yogurt and give him an fibre drink suitable for kids. Can also try DIY your own yogurt. my kids are currently taking some fibre drink given by a friend. Just adding water to the powder and it's yummy...

In Malaysia now they advertise asking ppl to drink 2 yakults in a day!

Wow! With all those yoghurt and yakult you can leave the calcium tablet out. Anyway, natural food is better.

WOW! Joshua takes so much of supplements? I only feed bb his formula milk and normal food. He doesn't like supplements. Not even cod liver oil, he prefers real cod fish :)
