Sick again

I'm not joking here, Jo falls sick again!! Ever since he started to school, he sick twice already. What a terrible experience for a little one, and this time is more serious than the previous one. He down to fever on last Friday, and the flu and cough attacked him simultaneously as well. But the most serious one is he has ulcer in his lip, tongue and even throat, so he just keeps drooling despite himself. I know he feels hungry, but he can't swallow anything include soft rice, porridge and even water. This situation keeps 3 days already, i wondering is it fine for a little boy doesn't take any solid and water? He keeps asking his milk, so i dilute his milk with 8oz of water but only with 3 scoops of powder.

The Saturday night was a toughest night for us, he cried and screamed at every 20mins/30mins intervals, i kept asking him where he feel painful but he was like never heard what i was trying to say to him, he just screamed with his eyes shut. Both of my hubby and me were worried when seeing his agony cry and scream.

At Sunday morning, we headed to HK for a consultation. Luckily we found a private clinic in Shatin, the doctor said it's a viral infection and no antibiotik is required. My hubby took the Twinrix Hep A + B combination jab at there as well, the total bill charged us HKD975 (jab 700, Jo's medication 225, consultation 50), wow, so expensive. If in Malaysia, the Twinrix jab is RM150, but it's double in HK.

He is super cranky now, he didn't speak a word the whole day but just keep crying and screaming there. I feel so terrible, i would like to help him, but i totally run out of idea. How to cure the ulcer? Today is the third day he doesn't take any solid, even plain water also difficult to feed him. He only willing to take his milk, Yakult and his "sweet" medicines prescribed by the HK doctor, others just no-no!

Is it he is too young to school? Sigh, i think i should stop sending him to school from now onwards.

Hope he gets well soon. I used to be involved in a web development for a probiotics company. In fact, I still have the link. Its www.lactogg.com. Apparently, it can prevent illness or at least reduce the risk. I used to take them when I was given free. However, they are costly, almost RM4 for each capsule. It works best for children, as they claim. I may purchase (with discounts) them in the future for Raelynne.

It's common when the kids start going to school. Don't worry, this will help them to improve their immune system in the future.

Just feed him milk if this is what he wants...hope he get well soon.

It's quite common for kids to fall sick after they start school. But their immune system will build up sometimes later.
Have you talk to the teachers? If the classroom is on aircon (and dirty filter) all the time, children tends to get sick easily.

You need to be patient as like what most mommies mentioned, it happens when they go to school. Previously, when my son first went to the nursery, he was sick once every 3 weeks! Naturally, the environment at school is less hygienic and thus, they are more exposed to germs & bacterias. In a way it's good as they will build up their immune system. Have you tried "Oral Aid" for the ulcers? It helps when my kids have them. Vitagen would be a good alternative to water too. Sometimes, I give ice cream too.

小孩进了托儿所就很容易感染到细菌,无可避免,慢慢他的免疫系统就能对抗细菌,生病就自然减少。嘴巴溃烂,我通常用中药的西瓜霜。

Usually I apply Oral Paste, gel type, very effective. Some clinic here sold it, can found in pharmacy too!
Another way is ask Jo to wash his mouth using salt-water, 盐水漱口!

He's screaming because of the pain in his mouth and throat. No1 had that once and for 3 nights, he hardly slept, cos it is painful even to swallow the saliva. The saliva actually helps in the healing of ulcers. If he's taking milk , should be okay.

When I first sent my boys to school, they get sick ( running nose and cough) almost every month for the whole year!!!! That is the thing that I hate most about sending them to school. NOw they're okay ( after 1 year).

alamak,so many ulcers, must have been really painful for poor joshua....

about whether if Jo is too young for school, i think all kids have to go through this phrase of life....whether they start now or later, still will fall sick.....I understand how you feel, it's really heart pain to see your baby suffer...me is speaking from personal experience...lol

Aww..poor Jo..hope he gets well real soon!

Damien had the exact same illness months back..i gave him lotsa water, iced water helps to sooth the pain..you can apply oral jel also. Usually the ulcers should clear in about 3-5 days time.

As for whether he is too young for school, i think this is a phase all kids went thru, regardless of their age. Damien starts nursery at the age of 3 but he too, fell sick like every month...cough, flu, fever..come and go, come and go...i'm getting used to it already..:P

Hang in there, huisia, and take care!

When my son had pneumonia last year, he rejected food/water/milk for 3 days. Worse of all, he was on strong antibiotics (the drip type) and all sorts of medicine. He grudgingly took his medicine. So we decided to feed him milk through the syringe used for medicine. Drinking 1-2oz of milk a day then was a victory.

So don't worry too much, at least he is drinking milk.

Oh, poor Jo...at least he still drinks milk.. You may offer him some barley water or honey... Hope he'll get well soon..

Thanks for all the concerns.

Today, he is able to take some waterly porridge and able to drink so plain water and ABC soup.

But, he is still very cranky and make me crazy. I said something unpleasant words to him as i definitely couldn't control myself over his tantrum.

I hope everything can go well asap, i don't want him to suffer from the pain, and i don't want my mentally being suffered too.

I'll take him for the pneumococal and hep-B jabs once he has recovered. Do pray for him..

Thanks.

Aiyoo..poor Jo and you. I know how you feel. Brae also always falls sick after his Kindermusik class. I wonder whether it is the environment or the kids. Just make sure Jo gets enough fluid. Hope he is recovering well.

Nowadays, the bugs are getting stronger... the moment a kid falls sick, other kids falls sick, then the adults falls sick. By the time they recover, they'd gotta get prepare for the next round. It's like a never-ending cycle....

BabyKhong - Agree, kids fall sick easily once the environment is changed.

PoYin - Thanks..i almost wanted to cry loud! :<

Baby Smooches - Ya, like never ending one, the bugs spread to my hubby now, sigh, maybe i will be the next who down to sick.

Hope he get well soon..

I heard some Paed actually don't recommend kids to go to school too early b'cos their immunity is not strong enough.

But then, it is also through this kind of 'exposure' that they build up their immunity.

So you weigh properly, see if you want or don't want to send him to school.

Ooo..poor Joshua, hope he feels much better by now.

If Joshua doesn't mind, feed him some cot liver oil when he feels better. They are some orange flavour available. It's believed to strengthen immunity.

You can really consider to put your child on Lactogg. go and get it from your Pae... It's clinically proven to reduce infections in school.
